On behalf of Indonesian-Canadian communities throughout British Columbia, PERMAI-BC as the Indonesian Association of British Columbia would like to extend our deepest condolences on the death of our fellow Indonesians and those who suffer physically as well as emotionally caused by a powerful earthquake centered in Indonesia's West Sumatra province on Wednesday, September 30 , around 5 PM local time. The 7.6-magnitude quake has killed nearly 1,200 people as of October 30.

Moreover, the damage to public infrastructure, productive assets and private property was estimated at a value of Rp 8.5 trillion (approximately CAD$800 million using today's exchange rate) according to KOMPAS, Indonesia's major newspaper.

PERMAI-BC, Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia and other Indonesian-Canadian communities are in joint forces mobilizing fundraising efforts and spreading the news to gather early disaster recovery assistance for those who are impacted by this disaster. We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and the least we could do is to organize a fundraising event held on November 28, 2009.

In the mean time, PERMAI-BC welcome those who are ready to donate only money by allowing them to make a deposit into our organization's HSBC account.

The following is the organization's bank account information:
HSBC Canada
Pay to the order of Indonesian Association of British Columbia
Acct.#:234640-080

Please contact Liza Wajong at 604-526-3127 or email her at lizawajong@gmail.com for account-related information. We thank all of you for the support in any form and let's all pray for God's power to lessen the grief.

In sympathy,

The board, committee, members, volunteers and participants of PERMAI-BC
