Discussion / Fashion Show - Oct. 8 & 9, 2009

The Indonesian Catholic Society in British Columbia called UKI - BC proudly presents a fashion show by Stephanus Hamy held on October 9, 2009. The event is open to public but seats are limited so please contact Clara Kriswanto at 778-898-4988 for more information.

In supporting the main event above, PERMAI - BC and Consulate General of The Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) invite the general public to attend an interactive discussion session with Mr. Hamy on October 8, 2009, in an effort to raise a traditional art awareness among Canadians as well as Indonesian communities. The subject of discussion would revolve around Mr. Hamy's knowledge on many facets of Indonesian ethnic textiles such as Batik Indonesia, Ikat Weaving and Songket.

A quick bio about Stephanus Hamy, he is a very talented Indonesian designer, born on May 7, 1960, whose creative works always try to capture a variety of Indonesian ethnic designs and grab the attention of fashion activists both in Indonesia as well as overseas. Mr. Hamy was an architecture graduate but changed his career path as soon as he enrolled in a fashion school called the American Academy in Paris. Being in the industry for more than twenty years, his boutique outlets in Indonesia run a monthly production capacity of at least 1,000 pieces.

Moreover, Stephanus Hamy is a former Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Designer Council and co-authored 'Batik from West Java'. He is currently appointed as The Ambassador of Indonesian Culture and Tourism Ministry to promote Indonesian fashion around the world. For the past couple months, Stephanus Hamy has also presented his Fall collection in Paris, Washington DC, New York, Ottawa and Toronto. It is such an honor for Indonesian communities in the Greater Vancouver area to be visited by Mr. Hamy's creative presence as well as warm personality.
